What ages of kids can play?
We have three Divisions covering ages 5 through 10: Shetland (T-Ball) for 5 & 6 year olds, Pinto (B-Ball) for 7 & 8 year olds, and Mustang (A-Ball) for 9 & 10 year olds.

When does registration start?
Registration starts January 2nd, 2007. Players from previous seasons will receive a registration form in the mail. New players may download a registration form here.

When does registration close?
Registration forms will be accepted as long as there are open roster positions needing to be filled. Rosters for A- and B-Ball teams are typically full by the end of February. Registrations for T-Ball are accepted into the beiginning of April, again based on available roster positions, due to T-Ball starting at a later date in April. Registration forms will be taken off-line and a notice posted on the Registration page when registration is officially closed.

What's the difference between "pre-registration and "registration"?
Pre-registration is the period between January 2nd and February 17th when you have the ability to request a preferred team or coach you want your child to play for. Open registration for new or returning players without team or coach preferences also starts January 2nd and continues until officially closed by the League.

Why pre-register?
Submitting your registration form before the February 17th pre-registration cutoff date will give your child the best chance staying with their current team, or of getting the team or coach you request. Registration forms received after February 17th lose that priority selection factor and your child may not get the team or coach you requested and may be placed on a different team. All team or coach preference priority requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

How much does it cost to register?
Registration fees are based on the age of the player - see the Registration Form for details. A $5.00 discount applies for the second and each additional child you register. Please fill out separate registration forms for each child and submit them together along with payment.

How do I know my child's League Age?
A player's League Age is determined by their age on April 30th.

Can my child play up an age group?
Yes, if he or she is capable of it.

Can my child play down an age group?
Normally, children must play in the appropriate Division as laid out in the Age Determination Policy issued by PONY Baseball. However, there may be instances where children with special needs or physical challenges may be granted an exception and allowed to play down an age group. Parents who believe that their child should be considered for such an exemption will need to petition the Executive Board in writing stating the child's special needs or physical challenges and the reason for the request. The Board will consider each petition and respond as quickly as possible.

When will I know which team my child is on?
Initial rosters for pre-registrations received by February 17th will be distributed to coaches at the March 1st general meeting. Your coach will contact you regarding roster status and practice schedules. Please, if you have pre-registered, do not contact a Board member or the Player Agent regarding your child's roster status unless you have not been contacted by a coach by March 10th.

If your registration form was received after the February 17th pre-registration cutoff, or you did not state a team or coach preference, your coach will contact you as soon as they receive the supplemental roster additions. The Player Agent will be contacting coaches as players are added to the supplemental rosters.

How are players assigned to teams?
Players are initially assigned to teams based on the franchise for which they played the previous season. The secondary placement criteria is the Team or Coach Preference information entered on your registration form. If there is an open roster position on the requested team after pre-registration closes, we will try to place your child on the requested team. Those spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you did not enter a preference, players are assigned to teams based on other factors such as commonality of school attended. When a player cannot be paired up with a team sharing such common factors, they will be placed in the general player pool and assigned to teams as needed to fill open roster positions.

Can my child change teams from one year to the next?
Yes, by using the Team or Coach Preference information on the registration form when pre-registering. This does not guarantee placement on the requested team however - players within that franchise have first priority.

Can my child change teams during the season?
If you wish to have your child play on a different team after they are assigned, you will need to contact the Board of Directors in writing with a request for the change. Describe the reasons or circumstances why you are requesting the change. The Board will review the request and notify you with a decision as quickly as possible.

When do practices start?
Practices start in early March.

What equipment does my child need?
Your child should have a glove, baseball cleats and an athletic protective cup (recommended for all male players). Players may use their own bats provided they conform* to PONY rules. The League will provide balls, catcher's protective gear and batting helmets to all teams. Players may use their personal batting helmets providing that they conform to NOCSAE standards. Helmet faceguards are recommended by PONY and WSAPWB, however they are not required; this is up to parents and/or coaches to decide.

(* Conforming bats are those approved for PONY, Little League, AABC, or USSSA Baseball play. "Big barrel" bats (2.75" max. diameter) are permitted under this definition for League play.)

When do games start?
Regular season games start the first week of April.

Where do we play?
WSAPWB has a four diamond field complex adjacent to Riverview Playfields. Click here for links of maps to the fields.

When does the season end?
Regular season games end in mid-June. Players on All Star or Tournament teams can play well into July.

What do the registration fees pay for?
Registration fees go towards uniforms, equipment, insurance and other operating costs. The remainder of our annual operating budget comes from sponsor's fees and tournament revenue.

Who does the field maintenance?
All field maintenance is done by volunteers from the League. Although our fields are on land owned by City of Seattle Parks and Recreation, we are solely responsible for maintaining the fields. If you would like to volunteer or have questions, please contact our Field Maintenance Coordinator.

Are "big barrel" bats permitted?
Bats with barrel diameters up to 2.75" are permitted in League play, providing that they conform to PONY Rules and are approved for play in PONY, Little League, AABC, or USSSA Baseball. Bats conforming to this specification will be marked as such on the label. The use of softball bats is strictly prohibited, as is the use of bats specifically designated for use in T-Ball in the Pinto or Mustang Divisions.
